Have you ever had a word stuck in your head and couldn’t get it out? Well that’s my problem lately, thus the origin of this post. The best way for me to get it unstuck is to talk about it with you. Are you ready?
Commitment. That’s become a nasty word today, for all age groups.
-Take relationships as an example, the “no strings attached” phenomenon is pretty much a new relationship status. Think I’m crazy still?
-How about the housing market, renting a home/apartment has become extremely popular for those moving out for the first time vs actually owning it (41.1% in 2014). Still not convinced?
-Look at the church. Church hopping has become the craze for those who feel that one church’s methods are too hard to swallow so they move to another. No stats are available from what I can see. (probably because the hopping is hopping so much.)
To the point now. Commitment is the church leader’s worst enemy, in-terms of volunteers. As we move forward with the Charge ministry, we need to be ready to face this head on. We’ve already seen issues where those who wanted to help haven’t said a peep. Don’t be one of the uncommitted church-goers, you are so much better than that. Take part in a ministry that grabs you and fits your calling. Take the challenge Jesus gave to us.
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.
Matthew 16:24 (NIV)
